    1. The antireflective coating on the telescope lenses are usually made of magnesium fluoride. The mirror of the telescope can be made from a strong, temperature-resistant glass such as Pyrex. They use these Pyrex so that light can easily pass through it (the mirror)

  2. Who made the largest land based telescope to-date and for what specific purpose was it made?

    1. As of 2013, the largest land-based reflecting telescope in the world is located in La Palma, Spain and is known as the Gran Telescopio Canarias. This telescope was made by a partnerships of several institutions from Spain and Mexico including the University of Florida, the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, and the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias. This telescope was made with the aim of constructing and operating one of the largest and most advanced telescopes in the world.
