Who discovered the zombie phase and why did they refer to it as a planetary nebula?
Fred Hoyle and William Fowler were the first to discover helium burning. Planetary nebula were named as such because when viewed through a telescope, they looked circular like planets. The name was never changed.
So whenever it gets bigger and more red that means its dying? Are there any exceptions to this?
Not that we know of. Unless there is a nearby star leaching off the larger star's mass, this process happens for all stars.

What do you mean the thermostat of the star has been broken on slide 7?
The temperature of the star has lost control and starts changing very rapidly.
What other planets other than Earth would be effected when our sun becomes a red giant?
Venus and Mercury would be consumed by the star. Mars might be safe from being consumed but it would be burnt to a crisp.
Approximately what temperature is required for the helium flash to occur?
About 100 million Kelvin
How long does it take for a star cluster to turn to the main sequence phase?
It depends on the amount of material around the cluster. It could take anywhere from 10,000 to 1,000,000 years to form a new star.
